Recyled Glass Flooring Tile: An Eco Treat for Your Feet!

September 3, 2012 / in ,

When it comes to bathroom flooring, there is a world of options out there. One of the biggest trends we are seeing is a move toward greener, more sustainable bathroom flooring. Recycled glass tile as a bathroom floor choice has been growing and growing in popularity. An utterly beautiful option, recycled glass tiles are long-lasting, easy to clean and eco-friendly. Using recycled glass reduces waste shipped to landfills. It also reduces the mining of clay and other minerals needed to make conventional tile.

Glass Tiles

Last January, our friend designer Laurie Gorelick twigged us onto Oceanside Glasstile. Oceanside produces several styles of tile made from up to 85% post-consumer recycled glass. Semi-transparent, with an iridescent surface, the tiles are available in a wide range of colors and sizes (mosaic tiles to 8”x8” floor tiles). Tip: Glossy surfaces are very popular right now, but they are also timeless.

Another glass tile selection is GeoGlass, from Glass & Glass, which is made from 95% recycled glass. Each 24″ x 24″ tile incorporates 21 pounds of glass that would otherwise go to landfills across the United States.

Glass Pebble Tiles

ModRocks Recycled Glass Pebbles are made from 100% post-consumer recycled glass tile. The pebble tile would be a sensory treat for any bathroom floor or shower floor. The smooth glass pebbles add a spa-like quality to your bath and the clear pebbles  play off the surrounding light, and pick up the surrounding colors beautifully.

Glass Plank

Glass Recycled turns glass bottles and discarded porcelain fixtures (that would have been sent to a landfill) into absolutely fabulous flooring. They make several flooring options, but GlassPLANK caught our eye! Glass Recycled makes each GlassPLANK floor by experienced terrazzo artisans in Texas.
