For most of us, stepping out of a warm, soothing bath and bundling up in a cozy towel is a luxury – one of life’s simple pleasures. But for the endangered sea turtles being treated at the New England Aquarium’s Animal Care Center in Quincy, Massachusetts, it’s a little more serious. In fact, it’s a matter of life and death. When our friend, Deb, a volunteer for the MSPCA in Methuen, MA, asked us to help out we immediately said “Yes!”
The Turkish Towel Company is very proud to be donating towels to the center, helping them treat and care for the many sea turtles suffering from the cold-stun season. Most of these turtles migrate south for the chilly winter months, but every year, up to 200 of the area’s animals are unable to navigate out of Cape Cod Bay, and are exposed to frigid temperatures as autumn sets in.
This season has seen a record number of cold-stunned sea turtles. It’s barely half over, and the center has already treated more than 150 animals. Each turtle is gently bathed and toweled off by staff, who carefully raise the creatures’ body temperatures over several days until they’re back in the mid-70s.
We’re overjoyed that our towels play a part in helping nurse these turtles back to good health, so they can eventually be released in warmer waters down south.
Here’s our gang! Angela, Audrey, Frank & Matt – the friendly folks that keep our operations running smoothly.
Here we are, loading up the car with boxes of towels!
Almost done!
